Amman – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi discussed, yesterday, Tuesday, with his French counterpart, Stéphane Ségournet, and German Annalena Baerbock, efforts to stop the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
This came during two phone calls that Al-Safadi made with the two ministers, according to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which Anadolu reviewed.
The statement stated that the Jordanian minister and Berbock discussed efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and adopt more effective mechanisms to bring sufficient humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip.
Al-Safadi stressed “the necessity of stopping the aggression and ending the humanitarian catastrophe facing more than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza,” stressing “the necessity of implementing Security Council Resolution No. 2728, which the Council approved yesterday (Monday).”
On Monday evening, the UN Security Council issued a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan, “in a step towards a permanent and sustainable ceasefire.”
14 countries voted in favor of the resolution presented by 10 elected members of the Council, while the United States abstained from voting.
The resolution called for an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, respected by all parties, leading to a permanent and sustainable ceasefire.
He also called for “the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages,” as well as ensuring the arrival of humanitarian aid, medical and other humanitarian needs.
Al-Safadi thanked his German counterpart for her country’s provision, on Monday, of additional support to UNRWA worth 45 million euros, according to the same statement.
The statement pointed out that Al-Safadi made contact with Sigourney, in the context of efforts aimed at “mobilizing an international position to stop the aggression and confront the humanitarian catastrophe that has put more than a million Gazans facing famine.”
Al-Safadi stressed the importance of bringing aid into Gaza completely, and that there is no alternative to opening all land crossings as a way to meet the humanitarian needs of the Gaza Strip.
