The 78th edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen has started! With Wout van Aert, Mads Pedersen and Jasper Philipsen leaving, a number of top players are competing once morest each other. – Arnaud Démare was on the list of participants for Dwars door Vlaanderen, but did not start. The French sprinter is suffering from severe fatigue and is taking a rest period.

– Bad news once more for Visma | Lease a Bike: Jan Tratnik has not recovered enough from his fall in Ghent-Wevelgem and had to give up following 80 kilometers.

– In the preliminary final there was a big crash in an elite group with many favorites in the descent towards the Kanarieberg. The biggest victims: Wout van Aert, Mads Pedersen, Jasper Stuyven and Biniam Girmay. Only Pedersen might continue, the rest were evacuated and had to fear for the rest of the spring.

– The remainder of the elite group, including Tiesj Benoot and Matteo Jorgenson, was able to continue and joined the remains of the early breakaway regarding 40 kilometers from the finish. The peloton then followed at 1.30 minutes.
