About love for ants, oak trees and the inhabitants of Latvia

If nothing interferes with the plans, the store will open its doors to customers this June. By the way, this is 25 new jobs.

It is known that the total area of the Maxima Latvija store will be 889 square meters. m, including the sales area – 550 sq. m, warehouse with utility rooms – 299 sq. m, and the rooms for employees will have an area of 40 sq. m.

Let’s also say that for the convenience of customers, the store will have seven cash registers, five of which will be self-service cash registers. The building concept takes special care of the sustainability of the building’s structure, as well as the improvement of the store’s surroundings and the creation of their infrastructure. Heating in the store will be provided using heat pumps, and the design solutions of the building are adapted to install solar panels in the future. For the convenience of those customers who use electric vehicles, an electric vehicle charging station will be built in the parking lot of the new store.

The most curious thing in this story is how carefully and even lovingly the project customers treated the huge old oak tree adjacent to the construction site and the town of ants (a protected species in Latvia), which chose it as their home. For this reason, during the construction of the store, careful consideration was given to monitoring and caring for the oak tree. Even before construction began, a myrmecologist (ant specialist) was consulted. In addition, specialists from Labie koki were brought in to help provide the correct additional fencing for the tree and carry out work to care for the oak and improve its vitality. That’s how!

No one and nothing in the ecological environment of the future store will suffer, which is very important from the point of view of a humane attitude towards nature and living beings. Balozhi are generally very expressive on the map of Riga region due to their beautiful location and nature. They are located at the “right” distance from Riga – not too far and not too close. That is, the new store will be located in an actively inhabited environment, which is chosen by many families.

“One of our constant priorities is to be closer to Latvian residents, so that everything they need in everyday life can be conveniently and profitably purchased in one place and close to home. – says Viktor Novikov, director of the real estate development and construction department of Maxima Latvija. – Therefore, we are very pleased that the first Maxima store in Baloži will open its doors at the beginning of this summer. This is a big plus for the infrastructure of Baloži, an additional convenience for the residents of this beautiful village and the surrounding area. Let me note that we care regarding the quality of construction, creating a modern trading platform, while not forgetting regarding caring for nature and improving the environment.”

There are more and more stores, and they are better

The Maxima Latvija retail network (170 stores in Latvia) is developing not only in breadth and geography, but also in quality. Thus, recently in Daugavpils on Avenue Street and in Rujiene on Valdemara Street, Maxima Latvija stores opened following major modernization – investments amounted to 70,000 euros. Store floors are now equipped with environmentally friendly technical solutions such as LED lighting, as well as new and modernized equipment and energy-efficient solutions in the selection of equipment. Moreover, the unified concept of Maxima stores is being implemented in all Baltic countries.

Last year, Maxima Latvija invested more than 5 million euros in updating and developing its network: 33 company stores in different parts of the country received a new lease of life. And now in 121 Maxima Latvija stores, almost identical sales floors have been achieved, where a uniform display and an identical assortment of goods are provided in stores of the same format. This is convenient for buyers: if you go to Maxima Latvija in another city, then you find yourself in a comfortable and pleasant shopping environment that is easy to navigate. In 2024, Maxima plans to complete the transition to the new concept in most of its stores.

“We think regarding the convenience of customers and store employees, regarding the efficiency of the enterprise, Maxima continues to purposefully invest in the development of the sales network throughout Latvia. Our constant priority is to create a modern trading environment that is pleasant for customers and convenient for employees. That’s why we have continued to invest in both store renovations and network expansions over the past year, as well as adapting stores to a unified concept, while enhancing the employee experience and improving a pleasant working environment for colleagues both in stores and on the sales floor. logistics center,” says Evija Grinberga, Director of Sales and Production at Maxima Latvija.

In addition to the adaptation of Maxima Latvija stores to a single concept, three were also overhauled – in Jelgava, Riga and Valka, where a total of 2.1 million euros were invested.

The largest financial investment was made in the Maxima Latvija format X store in Jelgava at Dobelesko highway 47a – in this case, 1.45 million euros were required! Here, the trading floor and utility rooms were completely renovated, the energy efficiency of the building was significantly increased, utility networks were built, special attention was paid to the comfort of employees by improving the premises and areas of employees, as well as improving the road surface.

Among other things, the company Maxima Latvija invested 130,000 euros in its logistics center Abrās in Kekava parish last year. Much has been done to improve the working conditions of employees, as well as the energy efficiency of the logistics center buildings.
