Explosions and fire occurred at Novocherkasskaya State District Power Plant near Rostov

A fire occurred at the Novocherkasskaya State District Power Plant in the Rostov region, as a result of which two of the nine power units of the station were turned off. The governor of the region, Vasily Golubev, announced this on the night of Monday, March 25.

The official said that the causes of the fire are still being established, but it itself occurred “at a transformer substation” and was “promptly eliminated.” According to him, due to the fire, two high-voltage power lines coming from the station were automatically switched off; their operation has already been restored. However, “two power units of the state district power plant have been temporarily taken out of operation,” Golubev said.

At the same time, social network users reported the sounds of explosions in the area of the Novocherkassk State District Power Plant, as well as attack UAVs flying in its direction. According to the Telegram channel “This is Rostov,” at least ten explosions were counted, while local residents experienced power outages.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said 11 drones were intercepted over the Rostov region overnight.

Russia has been dealing massive blows to Ukraine’s energy sector in recent days

Ukraine was also attacked on the night of March 25 – Odessa authorities reported Russian strikes on local energy infrastructure facilities, due to which electricity was partially lost in the city.

Similar attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector by the Russian Federation have become more frequent in recent days. On the night of March 22, during another such attack, the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station, one of the largest and most powerful hydraulic structures in the country, was seriously damaged. The Russian Ministry of Defense admitted that it was striking energy facilities in Ukraine, but justified this by the fight once morest the Ukrainian military-industrial complex. At the same time, Ukraine reports that the consequences of Russian attacks are critically affecting the energy supply of residential buildings.

During another such Russian attack, which occurred on the night of March 24, one of the Russian missiles flew into Polish airspace, causing Warsaw to scramble warplanes. This is not the first violation of the borders of Polish airspace by the Russian Federation since the beginning of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but Moscow does not react in any way to Poland’s claims in this regard.
