Opposition legislators presented a project so that the owners of batea trucks start paying a “contribution for intensive use of Provincial Route 6”. The intention is to create a fund that finances the conservation, maintenance, repair and improvement of the road that is used to transport silica sands to Dead cow.
The initiative corresponds to the legislator and president of the Vamos con Todos bloc, José Luis Berros, along with his bench peer Fabián Pilquinao.
The text provides that the owners of heavy vehicles, trailers or semi-trailers, that circulate on Route 6 with material necessary for hydrocarbon exploitations, pay an amount, whose value will be stipulated using the average price of a liter of diesel – grade 3 as a unit of measurement.
“The proceeds will go, in part, to the Provincial Highway Directorate to carry out conservation, maintenance, repair and improvement works on Provincial Route No. 6 and the equipment of the weight and dimension control system, among other operating costs. . While, 30% will go to municipalities and development commissions for works to improve streets and circulation routes,” details the project of the Peronist representatives.
The project also establishes a monetary fine for non-payment, the graduation of which will be based on the conduct of the offender and recidivism, if any.
Berros and Pilquinao highlight that “the mining extraction of the sands destined for Vaca Muerta is transported in trucks traveling on Provincial Route 6, and the intensive use of the road causes deterioration that increases the risk of road accidents.”
“The high traffic of trucks loaded with sand for hydrocarbon exploitation, due to its weight, produces normal deterioration. Without prejudice to the tender for the repaving of Route 6, we understand it is necessary, as an equitable and fair State policy, to set a contribution that serves to maintain and improve that road for the benefit of the Rio Negro men and women, also providing for a legitimate and federal distribution between municipalities and development commissions for works to improve and maintain local streets and roads,” Berros stated.
According to data from the Rio Negro Highway Directorate, currently regarding 300 trucks cross the Paso Córdoba bridge daily to complete routes related to the transportation of sand.
This number is higher than that recorded in previous years, but the forecasts for the state of Route 6 have to do with the projections of increased activity.
At the end of 2022, there were 800 authorization requests that the government had for the exploitation of quarries, located in different parts of the Southern Region.
