It’s too early for that. But they are already being discussed, partly as work affairs, partly because pending ambitions are imaginatively gnawing away at time. The time that separates us until 2028.
Then the second term will end for Nektarios Farmakis and his scheme. With a theoretically certain possibility that he will also claim a third. And why wouldn’t it, if today’s (and any tomorrow’s) opposition districts still don’t offer a viable counter-proposal to power.
By then, of course, a lot will have happened. K. Mitsotakis’ ND may have locked in its supremacy, but it may also have worn out, so the electoral success of Farmakis does not depend only on him, something that undermined Rep. Katsifaras in 2019.
Rumor has it, anyway, that Nektarios Farmakis will be tempted to jump to the main stage, if he hasn’t already. Something that had been rumored for years and for K. Peletidis, but it never came true. If he really wants it from the position of candidate for parliament, he will have an acute dilemma in front of him: The law will oblige him to resign a year and a half before the end of his term, and he will be out of the limelight for a long time, for a risky claim. There is, of course, the theoretical perspective of extra-parliamentary exploitation.
What does he say? Not worth it. But he’s obviously thinking regarding all this, just as he’ll be wondering why bother with controversial claims if the path to a third term is still open.
For the future of N. Farmakis, not only he thinks, but – logically – also the prominent executives of the scheme. Another may aspire to succeed him, if the time for the transition is ripe. Someone else may be interested in the ballot, if he considers that the friction with the self-governments of the second degree no longer fills him. Someone else may be interested in the self-governing affairs of the first degree. Who are we talking regarding? We certainly cannot exclude H. Bonano, F. Zaimis, Anna Mastorakou or even Takis Papadopoulos. Perhaps we should name more. But we do have time for that.
