Even more worrying, it is even decreasing, unlike our European neighbors. However, this cancer is the cause of 18,000 deaths per year, thus constituting the 2nd deadliest cancer in France. “It is essential to facilitate access to colorectal cancer screening, in a context where France is lagging behind, which is detrimental to the health of our fellow citizens”underlines Dr Jean-Claude Azoulay, president of the National Union of Medical Biologists (SNMB).

This union therefore proposes to the public authorities that all city medical biology laboratories be authorized to issue screening kits for this cancer. Until now, these might be ordered online, but also obtained from a pharmacy or provided by a doctor during a consultation.

“Biologists are well placed to contribute to this national effort: they receive more than 500,000 patients every day in laboratories covering the entire national territory and accessible without appointment or electronic connection” explains Dr Jean-Claude Azoulay.
