The Tyrolean won precious metal in singles and doubles at the World Championships in Turkey.

Just like last year, Michael Maldoner won gold in the men’s doubles 65+ at the Super Senior World Championships (age groups 65+ to 90+) in Manavgat with his Australian partner Glenn Busby. The 65-year-old and three players from Australia were on the pitch in the final. As in the previous rounds, Busby/Maldoner clearly prevailed once morest Michael Ford and Peter Hampton, who defeated Karl Pansy and the Colombian Carlos Behar in the second round – 6:3, 6:0. In their four matches, the two only lost a total of nine games.

In the singles, Maldoner fought his way into the semi-finals with three wins. He also had to go to a tiebreak in two sets, which he won both times. In the semifinals, Maldoner met his doubles partner Busby. When he was 0:5 behind in the first set and had problems with his thigh, he gave up and gave up. Due to the injury, a win once morest Busby was not possible anyway, and so energy was saved for the double final the next day. That paid off in the end. Pansy also fought his way to the quarterfinals in the men’s singles 65+, where he lost to finalist Javier Molina Ramos from Spain 1:6, 2:6.

Austria’s team captain of the women’s 75+ from the team world championships in week one was also able to win the bronze medal in the women’s doubles 75+. Heiderose Toth and the British Phyllis Bentham celebrated a 6:3, 6:3 opening win once morest the South Africans Hester du Toit and Danilla Whelpton, before losing 2:6 in the semifinals once morest the second seeded Brits Marjory Love and Rosemary J. Wilson , 1:6 was the end – that meant third place. Together with the bronze medal for men 85+ at the Team World Championships, the ÖTV seniors in Manavgat were able to bring precious metal to Austria four times.

We warmly congratulate you and are extremely proud of you.
