voestalpine: Interest in “green” steel is increasing

LINZ. 35 companies already purchase the CO2-reduced steel from voestalpine, based in Linz. The first delivery took place two years ago. Customers include the Swiss designer furniture manufacturer USM and the Japanese crane manufacturer Tadano. The company says that current sales volumes of “green” steel are in the low single-digit percentage range.

Around ten percent of emissions are currently saved during production. The electric arc furnace in Linz, which will go into operation in 2027, will produce around 1.6 million tons of CO2-reduced steel annually. According to the group, emissions will then fall by 30 percent.
