The retail chains, which are all supplied by Axfood AXFO +0.23%Dagens utvikling-owned wholesaler Dagab, believe that Nestlé has raised prices unreasonably.
“We always have for intention to agree with our suppliers. In this case, we are not there at the moment,” says Marie Svaton, head of communications at Dagab Grocery news.
Nestlé’s communications manager Mikael Lindgren tells Dagligvarunytt that the price increases are a consequence of the historic cost increases that the food industry faces.
“When it comes to the price of coffee, there are several environmental factors that influence, including climate change and high volatility on the stock market, which means that quality coffee is threatened,” he writes to the newspaper.
Mikael Lindgren further states that Nestlé works to keep pricing “affordable for consumers”, but that the company also wants to pay fair prices to its own suppliers.
Dagab doesn’t want to go into how large the current price adjustment is or why it is considered unreasonable, but refers to not commenting on ongoing negotiations.
“When we receive notifications regarding price adjustments, it is important that they are reasonable and well substantiated. When we don’t think so, it can happen that we don’t agree, but as I said, these are dialogues that we have on an ongoing basis”, says Marie Svaton.
