More than 50 horses released from disputed stud farm

On Monday evening, between 50 and 75 horses were released from their enclosure at Viegård Stutteri, south of Aalestrup.

Michele Vandborg, who has helped organize demonstrations at the stud, tells TV Midt-Vest that both demonstrators and employees from the stud are trying to get the horses back in the paddock.

She hopes that the horses will be caught as soon as possible.

– People can die from driving into such a horse if they get on the road, says Michele Vandborg to the media.

According to Ritzau, the Central and West Jutland Police have confirmed on Monday evening that they have received a report.

Therefore, the curator of the bankruptcy estate was contacted, who said that he wanted to send some people out to the stud farm. But the police have not immediately heard anything more from him.

Earlier in the evening, according to TV MidtVest, it was said that the horses had been captured and were on their way back to the paddock, but at 10.30 pm the report is that the horses are still loose and have spread.

End-faced by excavators

Viegård Stud came into focus last summer, when pictures of emaciated horses that were allegedly recorded at the stud were published.

During a closer investigation on the property in August, 50 buried dead horses were found, and the owner was accused of emaciating horses. The owner has denied this.

Back then, the land around the stud farm was turned over by excavators, and Viborg Municipality found that the dead horses had been buried without permission.

It has previously come to light that there have been several comments regarding animal welfare at the stud farm.

For several months, protesters have been present daily at the property, which is located between Aalestrup and Skals.

The stud farm was declared bankrupt in October. The same applied to the owner, John Byrialsen, who went personally bankrupt.
