ALGIERS – Interventions carried out on the first ten days of the month of Ramadhan by fraud control and repression agents, reporting to the Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion, led to the seizure of 93.5 tonnes of goods and 143 units of non-compliant products, with a total value of more than 65 million DA, a report from the ministry revealed on Monday.
According to the results of economic control and fraud repression activities at the national market level from March 11 to 20, 65,516 interventions were carried out by fraud control and repression agents, i.e. 22% more compared to the same period of 2023.
These interventions made it possible to note 12,946 offenses and draw up 12,422 reports of legal proceedings, according to the same source, which shows an increase in offenses of 4% compared to the same period last year.
These operations allowed the seizure of 93.5 tonnes of goods and 143 units of non-compliant products, with a total value of 65.47 million DA, indicates the balance sheet, showing a total amount of 2.046 billion DA of commercial transactions without invoices and 510 samples, including 91 declared compliant, 32 non-compliant and 387 currently being analyzed.
This assessment covers several areas, namely quality control and the repression of fraud, control of commercial practices and the fight once morest illicit speculation.
Regarding the repression of fraud, the results show 30,770 interventions resulting in the detection of 4,913 offenses, the establishment of 4,546 legal proceedings and the proposal to close 121 commercial premises.
These interventions led to the seizure of 89.71 tonnes of non-compliant or unfit food products worth 46.5 million DA.
The offenses noted concern the absence of hygiene and safety (60%), the absence of self-control (11%), the sale of products unfit for consumption (10%), the lack of labeling (4 %), non-compliance with the food safety obligation (4%), non-compliance with the product safety obligation (3%), obstruction of control agents (2%) and other offenses (6%).
In terms of commercial practices, 34,746 interventions were carried out, leading to 8,033 violations noted, 7,876 reports drawn up and the proposal to close 310 commercial premises.
These interventions revealed a total amount of 2.04 billion DA of commercial transactions without invoices, giving rise to the seizure of 3.79 tonnes of goods and 134 units of different products worth 18.96 million DA, in above the proposed closure of 310 premises.
Concerning the nature of the infringements observed, it mainly concerns the failure to label and display prices and rates (58%), the sale without invoices (9%), the failure to register in the commercial register ( 3%), the exercise of a commercial activity not mentioned in the commercial register (2%), the issuance of non-compliant invoices (1%) and the non-modification of the data in the extract from the commercial register (1%).
Other offenses (24%) were also noted for concurrent sale, carrying out an activity without authorization, dishonest commercial practices and fraudulent practices.
In the field of the fight once morest illicit speculation, which is part of the evaluation and monitoring of control activity at market level in accordance with Law 21-15 of December 28, 2021 relating to the fight once morest illicit speculation, and as part of the control operations carried out during the first 10 days of the month of Ramadhan, 9,285 interventions were carried out, in coordination with the security bodies, which allowed the control services to identify four (4 ) offenses and to draw up four (4) reports of legal proceedings.
Furthermore, the control services took precautionary administrative measures with the seizure of 361 kg of foodstuffs.
