NORTH SIOUX CITY, South Dakota (KTIV) – A new ambitious move to reshape local agriculture is being established in North Sioux City.
Urban Farms Limited has established Urban Farms’ South Dakota LLC. They plan to put together a three-acre, high-tech indoor vertical farm that will create 100 jobs and internships for Sioux City. The project will have an internship program geared towards high school, trade school or college students who have a passion for agriculture and technical innovation.
The company says the farm will be able to produce 4,000 lbs. of fresh, non-GMO and pesticide-free leafy greens every day. This is intended to help supply the local retail and food service sector, especially during the winter months.
Vertical farming is a farming method that grows crops in a stack. This allows them to use soilless farming techniques and produce much more food on the same amount of land.
