Washington – (AFP)
The United States expressed its “disappointment” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to cancel a visit by a high-level delegation to Washington, a White House spokesman announced Monday.
The discussions with the Israeli delegates were to focus on the planned attack on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said: He will not send the Israeli delegation to Washington following the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.
The United States did not use its veto in the UN Security Council on Monday, and only abstained from voting, allowing the first immediate ceasefire resolution to be passed in the Gaza Strip, despite the threats of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Israeli news website Ynet reported on Monday that Netanyahu said he would cancel a scheduled delegation visit to Washington if the United States did not use its veto once morest a UN Security Council proposal calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
A high-level delegation was scheduled to visit Washington to discuss a planned Israeli military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said: The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip might begin immediately following the release of the first hostage held in the Strip.
After more than five months of war, the UN Security Council adopted its first resolution on Monday calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and the United States abstained from voting following obstructing previous attempts to issue a resolution by resorting to the veto.
The resolution, which was supported by 14 members and one abstention, demands an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, which began two weeks ago, provided that it leads to a permanent ceasefire, and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
