Brutal old school death worship with slam metal and core attitude: Final Resting Place date their debut EP Prelude to Extinction on any streaming portals, simply set it to 1995 – and you might easily get away with it!
„Brutal fucking shit straight out of New York and Maryland. If you ever wanted to murder your neighbor, here is your soundtrack. FFO: smash your worst enemy’s skull with a hammer.“ promises the calibrated label Daze regarding the DAZEBRUTAL01 catalog debut and doesn’t fill your mouth with it too much.
What else can be added (and can also be criticized by Alex Deheza and Dom Pabon): Prelude to Extinction is not primarily defined by the solid, all-round competent (its influences from Dehumanized up to Eternal Suffering eclectic songwriting, but also through the crazy sound of the record. He leaves the snare dry as dust in the massive drums like it was from the heyday of Nu Metal before the turn of the millennium and turns the bass almost absurdly high in the mix: following the atmospheric ambient intro Suffering understands Chaos Collected His craft is incredibly heavy and tough, grooves like hell, lets the (admittedly somewhat indifferent) riffs roll, but at the same time buries the guitars in a booming cathedral.
So where the production comes across like a sledgehammer and the 90s artwork rounds things off, the fat workout borders on exaggeration and without requiring excessive brain activity during consumption is definitely a hell of anachronistic thing. There is the primitive one Ridding of Impurities the guttural berserker and turns freely in spurts to go on a rampage as if bitten by a tarantula, the bulldozer of the titular smasher tacks and shoots Mundane Reflection in grim malice.
The bad habit of simply abruptly fading out songs only diminishes the enjoyment minimally, but it is one of those things that Final Resting Place I’m sure you might easily break the habit to do this Prelude to Extinction to really trigger the potential mentioned.
