The number of families living in vulnerable situations assisted by Kwenda in the province of Moxico will reach more than 40 thousand, with the start, yesterday, of the registration process for nine thousand residents in the municipality of Cameia. The Social Monetary Transfers program, currently being implemented, has already assisted 32 thousand 833 families in three of the nine municipalities in the province of Moxico, namely Luau, Camanongue and Luchazes, which benefited from monetary values, revealed yesterday the provincial director of Local Development Institute, Simão Paita.
The official told Angop that in order for the registration to be successful, 30 Community and Health Development Agents (ADECOS) from this municipality began to benefit from technical training, with a view to raising awareness among families. The training, lasting five days, is limited to the handling and application of an electronic system of 99 files, which will serve as the institution’s database, which will define the selection of future Kwenda beneficiaries.
Along these lines, the deputy municipal administrator of Cameia, Leia Dina Ferreira, highlighted the impact of the program, understanding that it will change the economic and social life of communities. The Kwenda program, initiated by the Angolan Executive, aims to create policies to support 1,608,000 most vulnerable and poor families in the country, with a quarterly monetary value of 66 thousand Kwanzas. Created in 2020, the program has four components, which are Monetary Social Transfers (TSM), Productive Inclusion, Municipalization of Social Action and the Single Social Registry.
It is valued at 420 million USD, is financed at 320 million USD by the World Bank (WB), with the other 100 million USD coming from the National Treasury. It is operated by the Local Development Institute (formerly – Social Support Fund – FAS), which, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities. Cameia is one of the nine municipalities that make up the province of Moxico, located 102 kilometers east of the city of Luena. The region has 38 thousand 626 inhabitants, mostly fishermen, farmers and traders.
