The original Bentley Speed Six sports car, produced between 1928 and 1930, is an iconic model for the traditional British carmaker, as two victories at Le Mans helped build its reputation as a manufacturer of impressive cars. And now he’s back on the scene.
After more than 90 years, the car manufacturer boasted the construction of the first car from the so-called Continuation Series, when it revives legendary historical models and manufactures them completely once more, but according to period materials and using period techniques. And that’s not easy.
The large car manufacturer thus had to turn to a number of smaller companies that supply individual components according to historical specifications. For example, Portobello Engineering supplied a chassis frame made of 5 mm thick steel, for the bending of which they had to develop new equipment. Additionally, the frame uses the older British BSF standard bolts instead of the modern metric ones.

The body frame was then created by the coachbuilding company Lomax Coachbuilders, which uses traditional tools and techniques for the production of wooden bodies. The frame was then sent to the Bentley Mulliner division where it was covered with 25 meters of the original Rexine material to create the actual body.
But the company also emphasized smaller details, for example the headlamps were supplied by Vintage Headlamp Restoration International, while the radiator and fuel tank were supplied by the Vintage Car Radiator Company.

Under the hood is an in-line 6.5-liter six-cylinder engine, the performance of which might easily be tuned to much higher parameters, according to the automaker, with a final output of 153 kW (208 hp), however, it is only 3.7 kW (5 hp) more powerful than cars from the 1930s ).
During the testing of the first prototype, known as Car Zero, the company drove around 10,000 kilometers with the car on various types of surface and was able to get a maximum speed of up to 180 km/h from it.
Bentley expects to produce only 12 units of the Speed Six Continuation Series model, each of which already has its future owner. They might also choose their own specification, which, however, was once more based on the car manufacturer’s contemporary offer.
