PRESIDENT Joko Widodo or Jokowi said the price of medium rice was still a complaint among traders in the market. However, he believes that following the harvest, the price of medium rice will fall.
“The medium level cannot be reduced drastically. But in general, it has decreased, but not yet because the big harvest is starting and we hope that, with dry grain, the harvest will decrease, the rice will also decrease slightly, perhaps in the next month,” said the president following reviewing the market. Sebukit Rama, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan Province, Wednesday (20/3).
The government, said the president, is trying to keep the price of dry grain from falling. In this way, farmers still make a profit. Jokowi promised to maintain a balance between the basic price of rice production and the market price of rice sold to consumers.
“We are also controlling, being careful so that the price of dry grain does not fall so that farmers suffer losses. We maintain a balance between the basic production price for farmers which must make a profit and also the retail price which is also good for consumers,” explained the president.
After visiting Sebukit Rama Market, the president claimed that food prices were stable. He said garlic was IDR 40,000, shallots IDR 30,000 while the price of premium rice was IDR 17,000 per kilogram. (Eng/Z-7)
