SYRIZA – European elections: Around 400 candidates for the ballot
 – 2024-03-23 17:26:08

The schedule, as well as the technical details for the primary elections once morest the background of the European elections, occupied today’s meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, as the time is counting down for the formation of the Koumoundourou Eurolist.

However, starting the discussion from the issues of current affairs, the members of the supreme governing body assess the previous period, that is, the one between the congress and the following, as very positive, but also the attitude of the party in relation to the bill as very positive for non-state universities.

In this context, the Political Secretariat of the SYRIZA PS reiterates its support for the student mobilizations, which are taking place due to a violation of Article 16 of the Constitution, a position that Alekos Flambouraris, Olga Gerovasilis and Dionysis Teboneras allegedly asked to be underlined once more, in the wake of of yesterday’s statements by the MP, Petros Pappa.

Focus on personal data

In addition, the governing body of SYRIZA PS decided that a Task Force will be set up until the European elections, which during the pre-election period will monitor the use of personal data, as well as whether there will be a breach of personal data.

In this context, it remains open whether some initiatives will be undertaken in this direction, as, in any case, the issue of personal data is considered very critical for Koumoundourou.

The road map of the European ballot

According to party sources, the primary elections for the composition of the European ballot have been “locked” for April 14, with the aim of nominating the party’s MEP candidates.

The evaluation of the CVs of those who have already expressed interest is in progress and will be completed at the beginning of next week, when the approximately 400 participants in the primary elections are expected to be announced.

A necessary condition, however, for those interested to be included in the primary election list is to respond to the letter they will receive from SYRIZA, in which they will be asked:

– To state that their criminal record is clean.

– To state that they are not members of another party,

– but also to choose the electoral district in which they wish to run for election.

It should be noted that each candidate will be able to enter only one of the 13 regions of the country, while both the quota and the population of each region will be taken into account in order to distribute the nominations.

For example, in the Region of Attica, 12 MEP candidates will be elected in the primary elections.

The two current MEPs of the SYRIZA PS are excluded from the preliminary election process, while a total of 35 candidates will emerge from the process.

At the same time, 5 nominations will be proposed by the President of the party, Stefanos Kasselakis, in order to serve the goal of the quota, but also the representation of certain social groups, without these positions involving “celebrities”.

Member register

For their participation in the process, those interested should immediately respond to the letter they will receive, while in the primary elections, in addition to the members, friends of the party will also vote, whenever a Register of friends of the party is created, according to the Statute.

As far as voting is concerned, it will be conducted both electronically and by ballot. For e-voting, a special platform will be opened in isyriza and those who want to vote by e-voting will fill out an application whenever their name is removed from the electoral roll at the local polling stations, so that there is continuity.

Finally, the SYRIZA PS European ballot should be submitted by April 19, when the candidates who will finally participate in the primary elections are expected to be announced next week. Also, the friends of the party will exercise their right to vote in another ballot box, different from that of the party members, with the result that two ballot boxes will be set up. In addition, iSyriza will also post the detailed biographies of the candidates who will ultimately be selected for the primaries.
