«MSC’s plan for the reindustrialization of Wärtsilä strengthens the Trieste production hub and its role in the Northern Adriatic with a leading global company. We are convinced that it is the right way to relaunch the industrial site in a highly developed sector for which Trieste, with its logistics, port and railway hub, certainly represents the most suitable place.” This is the message of the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, on his X profile, commenting on the meeting at the ministerial table at which MSC illustrated its industrial plan.
In Bagnoli della Rosandra – as explained in a Mimit note – the project plans to create a production plant for railway carriages for the transport of goods. The goal is to produce 1,000 wagons a year, reabsorb all the workers and start with production at full capacity within a maximum of 36 months.
The meeting, chaired by Undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto, was attended by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, Wartsila, MSC, Ansaldo Energia, the Ministry of Labour, Confindustria and the trade union representatives. In this context, however, Ansaldo Energia has clarified that at this moment there are no conditions to be part of the project.
The region
«Today we can glimpse a solid path, with the intervention of a company that has demonstrated that it has clear and concrete objectives. The MSC guidelines for the reindustrialisation of the Bagnoli della Rosandra site are consistent with the objectives that the Region shared with the agreement of 29 November 2022: maintenance of high-level strategic industrial production in Trieste and protection of employment levels, with particular attention to related workers. This includes the opportunity for the State to intervene in the activation of the advantages of the Free Port, with a view to opportunities for the attractiveness of companies which concerns not only the Fvg but the entire nation”.
This was said by the Fvg governor Massimiliano Fedriga (in videoconference) and the Fvg councilor for Labor Alessia Rosolen. As councilor Rosolen explained, the meeting marked a turning point: «We heard numbers, concrete projects and a precise idea of an employment relocation plan. It should be underlined that today is the beginning of a journey which will see the starting point in the signing of the Program Agreement, within which each party involved will formally make their commitments as part of a shared road map. Furthermore, the issues of the permanence of Wärtsilä and the defense of related industries will also be addressed.”
