THE General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) accepted the sanctions given by the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) for not following up on public reports regarding Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s campaign. Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja said that his party respected the sanctions from the DKPP.
“Yes, we respect the decision and we carry it out,” said Bagja when confirmed, Thursday (21/3). In the decision reading session on Wednesday (20/3), the DKPP court panel gave warning sanctions to Bagja and four other members of Bawaslu, namely Lolly Suhenty, Puadi, Totok Hariyono, and Herwyn JH Malonda.
This sanction was given in a case reported by a student named Muhammad Fauzi. Previously, Fauzi reported Gibran to Bawaslu because he was suspected of carrying out a campaign in November 2023 on the agenda of the All Indonesian Village Government Association (Apdesi) friendship.
However, Bawaslu did not follow up on his report because it was deemed not to meet the material requirements. Therefore, Fuazi then complained to Bawaslu to DKPP.
“The reason for not meeting the material requirements is actually a question mark for the complainant as the reporter in the report,” said DKPP assembly member I Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi.
For DKPP, Bawaslu’s actions are considered to violate the provisions of election regulations and do not work professionally. As an election monitoring institution, Bawaslu should have the ability to understand the law broadly.
“That’s a warning for us. And it’s a means of correction for Bawaslu,” concluded Bagja. (Z-2)
