Elena Larrea, Mexican activist and model, lost her life at the age of 30. He highlighted that on social networks, fans expressed their confusion over what happened, since he was a very beloved personality, thanks to the work he did for horses, he was even in charge of Cuacolandia, a shelter that was dedicated to their care and rescue.
The news of his death was confirmed by his relatives, although regarding the causes of his death, it has been rumored that it was due to a thrombosis, presumably derived from cosmetic surgery, which was performed a few weeks ago.
What is Cuacolandia?
It is a sanctuary to which horses are taken, so that they can have a calmer life, in many cases victims of violence or exploitation.
This shelter, located in the state of Puebla, is dedicated to rescuing horses, to provide them with better well-being conditions.
“In Mexico, exploitation towards us is very common, since we work as cart drivers, in calenders, in fairs and in an infinite number of activities that as animals we should not do. Even though we are already in Cuacolandia, there are still many cuacos, donkeys and mules being exploited,” the description of the website tells us.

Elena took care of all the horses
According to information published by Infobae, it is estimated that Larrea had more than 300 horses, which he looked following and cared for.
What will happen to the horses?
The governor of Puebla, Sergio Salomón, issued a statement, in which he regretted Elena’s death, and shared what will happen to the sanctuary’s horses, ensuring that they will be protected.
“I deeply regret the death of Elena Larrea, a tireless fighter for the defense of animal welfare. The rescue of thousands of horses in conditions of abuse leaves testimony of her life and work. On behalf of the Government of Puebla, we extend our solidarity hug to her family and friends,” the publication began.

“We inform that through the Ministry of the Environment, we will guarantee the protection of the specimens that are in Quacolandderived from procedures of the DIFFERENT. Likewise, we will provide all the necessary help so that other horses are cared for by the authorities that rescued them as well as the rest of the horses, prioritizing their well-being at all times,” he added.
