Press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Sokółka, Sgt. Magdalena Afonin told PAP that on Wednesday before 11, in front of one of the properties in Sidra, the police noticed scattered manure and tires lying on it, as well as banners hung on the fence.
Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia confirmed in the Sejm on Wednesday in a conversation with journalists that it was his parents’ house.
This house formally belongs to me, but my parents live there, I don’t stay there – said Szymon Hołownia.
“Being in public life, I am used to various forms of expressing opinions regarding myself, but this is my parents’ house. This is a house where I do not live, where most often there are my parents, older people who are also terrified of the whole situation.” – he said.
The Speaker of the Sejm added that “someone came at night and dumped – as it turns out – five tons of manure, blocking the gate.” “Old tires were thrown into the mix, and banners were hung ‘traitors of the Polish countryside’, saying that farmers were grateful for gassing and clubbing in Warsaw,” he said.
Hołownia also said that he did not want to believe that farmers did it.
I suppose they might simply be hooligans pretending to be farmers, said Marshal Szymon Hołownia.
Hołownia emphasized that he was used to other conversations, also with farmers, and recalled the meetings he had held with delegations of farmers. “This is the way of conducting a conversation that, in my opinion, is the only right and the only acceptable one,” he argued.
Hołownia added that he might try to “comfort and apologize to his parents in some way” for suffering such unpleasantness because of him. He also expressed hope that a similar situation would not happen once more. As he said, if we escalate our behavior towards each other in this way, it will sooner or later end in misfortune.
He also pointed out that one should never cross “the boundaries of privacy, one’s property, the life of one’s family.”
Sgt. Magdalena Afonin previously told PAP that the police are investigating the offense case. This concerns the suspicion of committing three offenses: placing advertisements (in this case banners) in a public place not intended for this purpose, littering a public place and polluting a public road. In the case of this type of offenses, the police may conduct activities without proper reporting.
On Wednesday, there were regarding 30 farmers’ protests in Podlasie.
