On Monday, with the consent of the patient’s family, the hospital should publish more information regarding the course of hospitalization. Doctors said before last weekend that it was impossible to determine how long the former politician would be hospitalized.
Zeman was hospitalized on Thursday and subsequently operated on due to lack of blood in his leg caused by a blood clot. Two days earlier, the former president discussed comments with his predecessor in office, Václav Klaus, in a special edition of the TV program Události.
“Mr. President was hospitalized for certain difficulties and a re-investigation is underway. The health difficulties are also related to diabetes. It is expected that he will be hospitalized for regarding a week,” stated Zeman’s spokesman Jiří Ovčáček on Thursday.
Zeman had the most serious difficulties so far in the fall of 2021 while still in the position of president of the republic. He was then hospitalized for several weeks at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice, Prague. He was finally released to home treatment following 48 days.
Zeman was president for ten years, ending his term on March 8, 2023. He was replaced by the current president, Petr Pavel, who defeated ex-prime minister Andrej Babiš in last year’s election.
