A completely unusual situation occurred this Thursday in Biobío, where – following a month of vacancy – the PPD lawyer Gonzalo Soto Muñoz was presented as the new regional ministerial secretary of Justice and Human Rights. The professional began his government work by holding a protocol meeting, around 11:30 in the morning, with the presidential delegate Daniela Dresdner (RD), and just nine hours later, the Ministry of Justice announced his departure from office. Although the official information did not detail the reasons for this strange decision, it emerged that the Executive adopted it following learning of misogynistic posts that Soto published around 10 years ago on Twitter. Later, the Minister of Government, Jacqueline Cárdenas, explained: “During the last hours we learned new background information regarding who had been appointed; background information that is not consistent with the respect that the authorities and officials of this feminist Government must have in their actions. After comparing this new data with the person involved, he voluntarily submitted his resignation, which was accepted.” In the brief time that he became an authority, Soto explained that his objective was to “bring justice closer to the people, promoting expeditious and quality access,” along with “greater efficiency and effectiveness” of the services dependent on the distribution.
