A collaborator, screenwriter and friend of the director, Kostas Kostopoulos and an acquaintance of the actress and rape complainant, Elena Athanasopoulou, testified as a second witness in court.
THE witness he described how when the incident happened with the actress, who complains of rape, the well-known director called him and told him that something had gone wrong.
“He told me that he had gone out with Elena and then they went to a parking lot and somewhere in the back seat they were making out and somewhere in there he started the act and she reacted. He tried to calm her down and then left her in “Akrotiri” to a friend of hers. She did not speak to him and left. She told me to take her. I told him I don’t know her very well and I sent her a message and her reply was that “Kostopoulos raped me”.
There, I froze. I pick him up once more and tell him. And he tells me no I just told me to stop, I stopped immediately. He asked me what he will do, will the police go. He told me if he wants us to go to the police, let’s go together. I asked her if she was going to go to the police and she said yes. Later, he told me that he didn’t have the courage,” the witness described.
- Chairman: What was his reaction when he said he raped her? Did he seem surprised?
- Witness: He showed me the surprise of the style what are the things he is saying… He was denying it. He told me “as soon as he reacted, I stopped.”
- Conference: Did it occur to you that there was something romantic between them?
- Witness: No.
The witness, answering questions, said that the director’s intention when he contacted him was to call the complainant because she did not speak to him all evening.
Min. Accusation: He wanted to know if Mrs. Athanasopoulou intended to denounce him. Did he tell you to go to the police together? What did he mean? Does this make sense to you?
Witness: For Kostopoulos, yes. He is a man who does not give up. If he has a problem, he can go to the police himself.
“I might not understand if it was rape,” said the witness, answering questions from the defense.
- Co. Over: Is Kostopoulos in a hurry?
- Witness: No ok to hang out with him…
- Co. Hyper: In 2012 and 2013 did you hang out with him? Did you break up with him because you thought he raped her?
- Witness: No
The witness ended up testifying that on the one hand he is in favor of metoo, but on the other hand he does not know what happened that night. “I’m in favor of metoo and these events, that’s why I decided to testify for Elena. Apart from that I cannot have an opinion on what happened that night” said the witness, concluding his testimony.
The trial continues on April 5, while the court also ordered the forcible bringing in of a witness, a friend of the complainant.
