The Italian Journalists association is born, presented today in Rome, at the Civita headquarters in Piazza Venezia. The professionals who have decided to give life to this new reality have raised their voices on the panorama of the world of information, still today almost totally male-oriented. During the meeting, the digital analysis carried out by SocialCom on the gender gap in Italian journalism was also presented, a comparative analysis between the top roles in the editorial offices held, respectively, by female journalists compared to their male counterparts.

A mapping that leaves no room for doubt: the gender gap certainly exists. In leadership roles, in economic recognition, even in the appeal aroused towards public opinion through the web: out of 38 newspapers, only 6 are entrusted to female editors compared to the 32 led by male journalists and, among these, no news program has headed by a director. As for the web, although there were 85 social channels referring to Italian female journalists compared to the 64 channels of male colleagues, the latter reach an overall total of followers more than double (24.9M) compared to the mass that follows information professionals (10,2). Distance also confirmed in interactions: 49.7 million for male journalists versus 21.9 million for women. In short, this is not a country for women, not even in the media.
