The General Directorate of Epidemiology (DGE) of the Ministry of Health of the federal government detected an imported case of measles in Mexico City on March 14.
This is a child of four years and eight months, who arrived at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) on March 14, from London. The mother reports that the onset of symptoms occurred the day before the flight.
The initial detection was carried out at the AICM, and it was evaluated at the International Health office of the Public Health Services of Mexico City. The corresponding tests were carried out and the result was positive for measles, confirming the diagnosis the day following its identification. Once it was identified, a rapid response protocol was initiated with the public health services of Mexico City.
During the physical examination, he presented symptoms compatible with measles such as a maculopapular rash predominantly on the head, thorax and upper limbs; conjunctivitis, cough, coryza and fever.
He is currently stable and recovering at home. He is originally from Romania and a resident of Hungary; The transit countries in the last three months were: Great Britain, France, Romania and Hungary.
Authorities of the Ministry of Health apply the following action plan:
• Notification to the WHO Regional Contact Point for the International Health Regulations.
• Report to the UK National Liaison Center for International Health Regulations (CNE-IHR) the identification of a case of measles on a flight from London.
• Notification to the CNE-RSI of the countries in which travelers who had their contact information were identified.
• Vaccination once morest measles-rubella (MR) for exposed personnel without a history of vaccination.
• Establishment of a negative network (daily active notification of the absence of probable measles cases) in all health jurisdictions of Mexico City.
Health authorities remain alert to obtain information that guides actions to reinforce health promotion and specific prevention, in addition to disease control, with the purpose of avoiding the reintroduction of the measles virus.
The Ministry of Health calls on parents, guardians or caregivers of girls, boys and adolescents to complete vaccination schedules in the units of the National Health System, so that they receive the complete schedule.
