A new twist in the race for the Lucanian Regionals on 21 and 22 April: Angelo Chiorazzo (Basilicata Casa Comune) takes another step back and decides to support the centre-left candidate, Piero Marrese (PD). The founder of the Auxilium cooperative welcomed the appeal launched by the regional secretaries of the coalition which thus reunited with the dem president of the Province of Matera to challenge the outgoing governor, Vito Bardi (Forza Italia), re-nominated by the centre-right plus Italia Viva e Azione.
The second step back
Chiorazzo had already taken a step back to support the ophthalmologist Domenico Lacerenza, who had also been chosen by the centre-left and who then withdrew last March 16, just when the entrepreneur had announced that he wanted to go alone. «With a sense of responsibility – said Chiorazzo in a press conference in Potenza, in which Marrese also participated – we all decided together that it was not necessary to be selfish, but that it was necessary to give all Lucanians the opportunity to move on and give Basilicata a government different from that of the centre-right, which was the worst in history.”
Three candidates
A few minutes before Chiorazzo’s announcement in support of Marrese, the joint statement arrived from the regional secretaries of Pd, Green Europe, M5S, Sinistra Italia, Basilicata Possibile and Psi, who had launched the appeal for unity. «We ask Basilicata Casa Comune and Chiorazzo – they wrote – to intertwine values and programs to unite political, civic and social stories that are the representation of the best Basilicata. What animates us is the awareness that the citizens of Lucania deserve a serious and credible programmatic alternative for Basilicata”. The same tenor was used in another appeal, sent by some exponents of the Democratic Party, with the first signatories being the deputies Roberto Speranza and Enzo Amendola. Barring further last-minute surprises, there will be three candidates for the office of governor: Bardi, Marrese and the outsider Eustachio Madness say Volt.
The presentation of the lists
The lists must be presented in the Palaces of Justice of Potenza and Matera on Friday 22 March, from 8am to 8pm, and Saturday 23 March, from 8am to 12pm. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday 21 March, the last of the legislature of the Regional Council.
