Although the country is at a stage in which the lack of blood in hospitals has worsened, at the Specialized General Hospital Neves Bendinha, the delivery of family donors, whose primary intention is to save their hospitalized relatives, ensures surgeries
The person responsible for the hemotherapy service at the Neves Bendinha Specialized General Hospital, in the Popular neighborhood, in Luanda, Delfina André, assured the OPAÍS newspaper that the blood bank at her health unit still supports what she considers to be a weekly average of 35 blood transfusions. To this end, the hospital also known as “Hospital dos Queimados” relies on the will of the relatives of hospitalized patients who, on a daily basis, are sensitized and mobilized to donate blood, in order to avoid interruptions in the treatment of burns, which we want to regulate.
The regularity with which these donations occur allows the health institution to not only have blood sent from family members to respective patients, but to have it in a daily stock that facilitates the average number of daily blood transfusions, according to the source. The person responsible for the hemotherapy services at Neves Bendinha expressed her satisfaction at the fact that, in this process, the much-required O-RH positive blood group was also obtained.
Delfina André ensured that the blood bank at Neves Bendinha hospital always responds to the needs of patients. However, it is the opinion that the current that the National Blood Institute is launching should be taken advantage of, in order to change the current situation in which citizens view the issue of blood donation with taboos, prejudices and indifference.
“It is regarding establishing goals to increase the number of voluntary donors, raising awareness regarding the importance of donating blood, to the point of also increasing the retention rate of regular donors”, highlighted the health technician. To the population, the person responsible for the area responsible for making blood available to patients advised the population to donate this liquid, because, in her opinion, without donors, blood banks are unable to respond to patients’ needs.
Regarding the fears that people create when it comes to donating, Delfina André said that donating blood does not harm your health. “On the contrary, while donating blood you have the privilege of knowing your true individual serological status, and more”, said the person responsible for the hemotherapy service, having reiterated the universal slogan “Donate blood and save lives”! Finally, the health technician framed the appeal in the particular interest of her institution, inviting citizens to be donors at the Specialized General Hospital Neves Bendinha, where she recognizes that there is still a small group of regular voluntary donors.
