Authorities of the “Guiteras” thermoelectric plant in Matanzas, the largest energy block in the country, which goes from repair to repair, synchronized with the National Electric System (SEN) on the followingnoon of this March 18, almost at 4:00 pm , according to official information.

The energy entity itself, on its Facebook profile, assured: “CTE Antonio Guiteras synchronized to the national electrical system at 3:54 PM this Monday, March 18.” The idea is that the plant is giving the country over 280 MW and will last a couple of months, until it is paralyzed once more, for more repairs, heading into the exhausting summer in the country.

“There is a legitimate desire here to have approached perfection in each of the planned tasks. The success in the testing of all the equipment is a good omen,” said an official reporter regarding the maintenance work that was carried out two weeks ago at this plant.

La Guiteras synchronized, but won’t there be blackouts in Cuba?

They recalled that “La Guiteras” will turn 36 years old tomorrow, when as a rule a plant has a useful life of up to 35 years in the best of cases. This old terminal is already on overtime with no future solutions in sight.

“It alone will not end the blackouts. However, with Guiteras online the National Electroenergy System is strengthened, and more load can be served,” the reporter added.

The Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, located in the province of Matanzas, rejoined the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) following 15 days out of service. The unit will contribute regarding 280 MW to the system, which represents an important relief for the country’s electricity generation.

The shutdown of the plant was due to the execution of more than 1,500 maintenance and repair tasks, with the aim of guaranteeing its stable operation during the summer. But the reality is that it will only be a slight relief in the midst of the current energy crisis.
