The Q6 e-Tron introduces Audi’s new design language, which we have already gotten a taste of in recent years through all kinds of concept cars. Don’t expect a revolution, just a different interpretation of the Single Frame concept for the radiator grille, and more “organic” headlights. However, the technical possibilities are no less. For example, the matrix LED headlights and Digital OLED taillights will offer more personalization options, as will the option for so-called Car-to-x communication.
In profile, the flared wings are striking – in the style of the e-Tron GT, where the Q6 e-Tron also got its tail lights – and the low and stretched windows. But most striking are the large black inserts on the flanks, which symbolize the integration of the battery, and which we will also see on other e-Tron models.
Porsche Macan
Technically speaking, the Audi Q6 e-Tron is the cousin of the new electric Porsche Macan. Both models share, among other things, their Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and their battery pack with a capacity of 100 kWh (94.9 of which can be used). The 800-volt architecture makes DC fast charging with 270 kW possible, which, according to Audi, takes 21 minutes to bring the battery level from 10 back to 80 percent.
At a 400-volt charging station, the battery pack is virtually split into two halves, each charging with 135 kW. The internal AC inverter has a capacity of 11 kW.
Audi Q6 en SQ6 e-Tron
This 4.77 meter long, 1.99 meter wide and 1.648 meter high electric crossover will initially only be available in two versions: as the Q6 e-Tron Quattro and as the SQ6 e-Tron Quattro, both with a front engine and another in the back. The first has a total power of 388 hp, sprints to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h; for the SQ6 this will be 517 hp, 4.3 seconds and 230 km/h.
The WTP driving range of the Q6 e-Tron Quattro is 625 kilometers. There are five levels of engine braking, ranging from freewheeling to one one pedal-mode. The electric motor can recover up to 220 kW, which is enough for 95 percent of daily delays, according to Audi. Two basic versions with only one engine and rear-wheel drive will follow later, one with a smaller battery pack of 83 kWh gross.
Android Automotive
Just like the Porsche Macan Electric, the infotainment system of the Audi Q6 e-Tron also uses the Android Automotive operating system. The cockpit has three screens: the 11.9-inch instrument panel sits together with the 14.5-inch central touchscreen under one cover glass, which visually refers to the Single Frame radiator grille.
And as seems to be common nowadays in (electric) luxury cars, the front passenger looks out on a third screen of 10.9 inches. Audi adds a head-up display for the driver augmented reality while the system also uses artificial intelligence for its virtual assistant. And of course there is a whole list of apps and over-the-air updates.
