Almost a thousand matches in the red and white jersey, silverware from the World Cup in 1934 and a relationship with Prague 10, which culminated in the last years of his life in the current location of the Garden City.
The year of František Pláničky will start in April and will bring events for children and adults, football fans and culture lovers. The legendary goalkeeper takes over the baton of the thematic year following Josef Čapek, the great art.
“František Plánička was a role model on and off the pitch. His whole life is tied to his passion for football, Slavia and fairness in every situation. For his exemplary chivalrous approach to sport throughout his career, he was even awarded the fair play prize of the world organization UNESCO. With the same we also carry on his legacy with responsibility,” said Jaroslav Tvrdík, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SK Slavia Praha.
“I feel proud that on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his birth, we can dedicate an entire year to this national legend. In addition, together with Prague 10, there are youth-oriented activities that should be remembered for such personalities,” added the head of the club.
A more detailed program of the first half of František Plánička’s thematic year will be published next month. The common goal of the town hall and Slavia is to commemorate the legacy of the legendary goalkeeper through a number of sports, cultural, leisure, but also, for example, educational activities focused on the residents of the city.
Everything will start on Saturday, April 6, when the Vršovice derby with Bohemians 1905 will be dedicated to the legacy of the native of Prague, who died in 1996 at the age of 92.
