Montrealers who wish to observe the solar eclipse on April 8 at the Montreal Science Center can also try to win family packages to attend the “Kurios!” show. from Cirque du Soleil.

“In addition to coming to witness this spectacular astronomical phenomenon, don’t miss the chance to participate in the competition to win a family package for the show “Kurios – Cabinet of Curiosities”,” the Société du Vieux-Port de Montréal said on Wednesday.
An event, which will begin at 1 p.m. and presented by Cirque du Soleil, will take place at the Science Center where safety glasses will be distributed on site until stocks last, said the state corporation.
Three glasses distribution points will be installed in front of the Science Center, at the entrance to Quai Jacques-Cartier and at the entrance to Quai Alexandra, while the public will also be able to try on giant glasses which will be installed on occasion.
“A tent will be set up in front of the Science Center to broadcast the event live from the Astrolab in Mont-Mégantic National Park (Quebec) and from the David Dunlap Observatory (Ontario),” the organization said.
Other organizations also announced they are distributing free protective glasses to safely view the solar eclipse on the followingnoon of April 8, an event that will not happen once more for 180 years.
In addition, nearly 57,500 glasses are being distributed free of charge in the Montreal library network, while the Maison de l’astronomie offers solar observation glasses for sale, but only in stores.
