Research results have shown that part of the brain of children suffering from developmental language disorder has an abnormal structure./Photo = Clip Art Korea Research has revealed that part of the brain of children suffering from developmental language disorder has an abnormal structure.
Developmental language disorder is a disease that affects various aspects of language development, showing deficits in verbal and written communication as well as body language. It is known to be as common as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or dyslexia.
Dr. Michael Ullman’s team at Georgetown University Medical Center in the United States investigated the reasons why developmental language disorders occur through 22 papers that examined the brain structure of people with developmental language disorders.
As a result of the study, people with developmental language disorders commonly showed abnormal patterns in the anterior striae within the basal ganglia deep in the brain. This suggests that abnormalities in the basal ganglia region of the brain might potentially be an early biomarker that increases the likelihood of developmental language disorders. The research team explained that these early warning signs might lead to further diagnosis and potentially early treatment.
The association between developmental language disorder and abnormal structure of the basal ganglia region increases the possibility of drug treatment. For basal ganglia disorders, drugs that act on dopamine receptors are used, which means that a similar drug mechanism may be used to find the possibility of treating developmental language disorders and relieving symptoms.
Study author Dr. Michael Ullman said, “This study may be helpful to children suffering from developmental language disorders. However, additional research is needed to understand exactly how abnormalities in the anterior new striae within the basal ganglia cause language disorders.” “He said.
This study was recently published in the international academic journal ‘Nature Human Behavior’.
