The MINISTRY of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) claims that the Archipelago Capital (IKN) area is prepared to have no slum areas. IKN is said to have been prepared with all restrictions, including population migration.

“The PUPR spatial planning concept is involved in it. Its use has been regulated. We are trying to ensure that these conditions (slum areas) do not occur,” said the Director General of Housing of the Ministry of PUPR, Iwan Suprijanto in a press conference on Level of Service (LoS) for Building and Area Management. , as well as Urban at IKN at Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta on Saturday, March 16 2024.

According to Iwan, he said there would be a limit on the maximum number of people who would occupy IKN. He said that in developing the area around IKN, similar things were also implemented.

“Even outside the area designated by IKN and development, we also have programs, don’t let IKN become a magnificent city and then outside it becomes an unorganized area,” he said.

He emphasized that IKN will not have slum villages. According to him, existing traditional markets will still be organized.

“There are no slum villages, we will organize traditional markets later. This IKN was built as a government center, although there are also economic centers and so on,” he said.
