“Investigation to the end” answers the Minister of the Interior Niki Kerameos regarding the controversial case with the e-mails of Anna Michel Asimakopoulou to expatriate Greeks, which led to a domino of developments with departures and resignations, in view of the European elections.
Speaking to ANT1 on Saturday morning (16.03.24), Niki Kerameos recalled that from the first moment the first complaints surfaced regarding the e-mails that were sent en masse from the office of Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou, an order was given to conduct an investigation until end, in order to shed ample light on the case.
“We carried out what we said from the very beginning, an investigation to the end so that there was absolutely no shadow,” said the minister, stressing that this was done within just two weeks of the moment the issue arose.
“From the first moment at the Ministry of the Interior together with Mr. Livanio, we gave an instruction to carry out an internal audit to see all the procedures, to see if there is room for improvement,” she said, adding that there were complaints that needed to be clarified . He even added that the audit is done to establish in depth the adequacy of the security of all procedures.
“If the conclusion comes and indicates to us that we have ways to improve the procedures, we are here to come forward and do it overall for the better protection of personal data” said Mrs. Kerameos.
He clarified that the issue concerns the protection of personal data and not the electoral procedures or the postal vote, recalling that this was done 8 months before the postal vote was passed and even preceded the formation of the new New Democracy government.
Referring to the responsibilities that the opposition parties are trying to attribute to her, the minister commented that “this is absurdity in all its glory… Even populism has a limit”.
“And in any case we are talking regarding the illegal action of specific persons at a specific time” he stressed.
