The members of the sections of the Federation of Young Farmers (FJA) of Hainaut and Walloon Brabant who took action in the early evening at the entrance to the Haut-Ittre ring had to change their plan, faced with the intransigence of the law enforcement who prohibited them from entering the ring with their agricultural machinery. They finally dumped the earth they had brought onto the roundregarding located below ring 0, to plant seeds and raise awareness among the population of the fight they are waging on the European level.
“Obviously, we are disappointed. We risk fines to defend a profession that no longer allows us to earn a decent living. It’s the world turned upside down,” commented one of the participants in this action, Arnaud Reynens, on site.
Initially, the farmers, who were around fifty with around twenty vehicles, planned to symbolically start their tractors, seeders and earth bins to plant grass and flower seedlings “for free” along ring 0. idea was to recall the lack of remuneration by Europe for the efforts made by farmers in agri-environmental matters.
