Two hundred and fifty-three Cataract surgeries were carried out from the 10th to the 17th of the current month at the Saco-Mar hospital, in the municipality of Moçâmedes, Namibe province, doctor Coríntios Miguel revealed yesterday.
The director of the Provincial Health Office in Namibe said that the aforementioned surgeries were carried out as part of the Namibe Provincial Campaign for Cataract Surgeries, screening for Glaucoma and other eye pathologies.
In this campaign, according to the person responsible, 1,278 citizens were diagnosed, including 551 with cataracts, 104 cases of Glaucoma, 86 conjunctivitis and only one case of hemorrhagic conjunctivitis. “Of the diagnosed cases, only 253 underwent surgery, 249 of which were cataracts and 4 pterygium,” he said, in an interview with Angop. In this process, the person responsible also reported that 27 surgeries were canceled for various reasons, such as lack of attendance, high blood pressure, patients with diabetes and others.
Coríntios Miguel was satisfied with the adhesion of patients with cataracts and other eye diseases who came to the hospital and thus resolved their problem. The Namibe Provincial Campaign for Cataract Surgeries, Glaucoma screening and other eye pathologies involved 45 health technicians, including doctors and nurses from Luanda.
