The evaluation committee made the decision following analyzing the proposals presented by the three interested bidders: Metropol Consortium, Intercárceles Consortium and MZCJ 2024 Consortium.

The three companies that make up the chosen consortium have experience in auditing large-scale public buildings, such as the construction project of the Health City of Panama; penitentiary establishments in Chile; and the audit for the construction and adaptation of educational infrastructure in Medellín.

“We can now rest assured that a contractor of all qualities, who underwent an objective selection process, will be watching, will be inspecting the technical part, the financial, legal and administrative part of that great project that is the Metropolitan Prison “said APP deputy director Javier Rodas.

When will the contract with the Intercárceles Consortium be signed?

In mid-April the contract will be signed between the Agency for the Management of Landscape, Heritage and Public Private Partnerships -APP and the Consortium
Intercárceles for $13,315 million for the audit, which begins with the preparation of the work schedule prepared in conjunction with the concessionaire Prodemex.

The final designs and construction of the Metropolitan Prison for Unionized Prisoners will take approximately 36 months. The prison will have an area of 30,000 square meters built, in the Pedregal Alto neighborhood, in the San Cristóbal district, which will house 1,339 accused.

The purpose of this concession, the first of its kind in the country under a public-private initiative and with a term of 15 years, will be to build, operate and maintain the penitentiary center; as well as adapt the infrastructure and complementary services of food, laundry and provision. The cost of the project amounts to $675,013 million.

In this way, the District becomes a pioneer in abiding by the rulings of the High Courts, regarding the obligation of metropolitan regions to have a detention center of these characteristics to comply with current law.
