“If you want to hire an actor, go see a show” says Vana Pefani, who also answers the question of whether she would take someone who has come out of reality and is involved in the theater in her show.
Vana Pefani, speaking to On Time weekend, did not hide her opinion regarding the producers who hire actors based on their… followers!
As a director, would you collaborate with any of the faces who came out of reality TV, for example with George Angelopoulos, whom we see in “Gi tis eliya”?
I don’t know him and I can’t judge him. What I can say for sure is that as a director I would take any person – and I’m not just talking regarding reality TV -, who didn’t have the actor’s theater training, if I wanted him for a very specific thing.
That is, if for a certain role I might not find an actor suitable, either by external appearance or by temperament – and I’m always talking regarding small “things”, not regarding leading roles -, in such a case I might as well risk taking someone who has no training and I work with him too much to be able to stand in a show of mine.
I am in favor of lifelong training in our profession and in favor of obtaining a professional license.
How do you see what became known from your colleagues, that some theater producers are now asking to hire actors based on the number of their followers on Instagram?
If that happened – which it would happen, so to speak, but I haven’t experienced it – we’re talking regarding another business. They don’t want to hire actors, they want to hire barkers. They want to hire people who do another profession. Because if you want to hire an actor, go see a performance of him, do some research on him, see where he’s played, other things you have to consider.
