Hungarian army

The defense minister spoke to soldiers in Tata regarding a new quality of security that Hungary might achieve through NATO membership.
Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky described NATO as the largest and most successful defense alliance in the world. In addition to the Hungarian Army (MH) and beyond, NATO offers the guarantees for the lives of the Hungarian people and their assets. The last two years in particular have proven that NATO works. “This alliance embodies a credible deterrence force and, with its decisive demeanor, puts any challenger in their place.”
MH reshaped from scratch
The minister explained that Hungary is a recognized and valued member of NATO. “This is because this country and its government are doing everything they can to enrich the alliance with its financial and military resources.” The MH has been completely reshaped in 25 years, has replaced and modernized its technology park and installed predominantly digital systems into service that are NATO compatible and meet the requirements of the 21st century.
Two percent is the new standard
Since 2023, Hungary has spent at least 2% of its GDP on defense purposes, including more than 20% on the modernization of the armed forces. Szalay-Bobrovniczky praised Hungary’s participation in international missions such as KFOR, or in protecting the airspace over the Baltics, Slovenia and temporarily Slovakia.
