At 10:15 a.m. yesterday, councilor Gonzalo Bustamante Troncoso (RN) became alternate mayor of Bulnes, following the council voted in an extraordinary session.

The situation is not new in the region. Within the framework of the investigation of the Current Accounts case, precautionary measures have been decreed for three mayors (Ñiquén, San Ignacio and Bulnes). In the first two, communal leaders had to be elected to finish the period, and because Guillermo Yeber is in preventive detention, and the investigation period exceeds the 45 days that the law allows him to be absent from office, yesterday they proceeded to comply with the regulations in the capital of Diguillín.

In the first instance, Councilor Bustamante had “tied” at least one vote among the centre-left councillors, however, at the time of the vote, the three representatives of this sector – Mireya Lorca, Lorena Troncoso and Ricardo Pavez – were They leaned towards the latter, as a way of establishing a political position. In the first vote, Bustamante and Pavez reached three votes each, the same as in the second instance, so finally the municipal secretary proceeded to give the RN representative as the winner, because he was the councilor with the most votes in 2021.

The information was referred to the Regional Electoral Court to proclaim Gonzalo Bustamante as alternate mayor of Bulnes.

“I will not beat a dead horse”

Recently assumed, the new authority focused his speech on two points. “My commitment is to continue with the processes that were underway, because the citizens, the community, do not have to pay the costs of a
new substitute mayor, but this goes further, this goes with a sense of citizenship. My first commitment is that the processes must continue, the projects will continue working as they were starting,” he stated.

Secondly, he said, “I am not the one to make firewood from the fallen tree. I deeply regret what is happening, and from my mouth, nor through any media or social networks, will you hear a bad word or a conjecture regarding what is happening with Mayor Guillermo Yeber. Never,” he highlighted.

The new Bulnes authority, a social worker by profession, insisted that “my commitment is going to be with transparency, and of course, with austerity. The municipality is going through a very complex moment, mainly budgetary. So I have nothing left but to thank the councilors who trusted me and those who didn’t. We have been working together for years now, so let’s hope for the best from each of you so that our community can get ahead of this difficult and painful situation. We have come out of worse circumstances, and this is just a substitute, the processes must continue and we will always be on the side of the people,” she highlighted.

RN adds three new mayors

The election of alternate mayors in the region has allowed RN to position three of its councilors as new authorities, in the communes of Ñiquén, San Ignacio, and now, Bulnes, which was highlighted by the regional president of the community, Rodrigo Gonzalez.

“At Renovación Nacional we are happy, since today we have added a new mayor, a new municipality for the community, and thus we can influence the quality of life of a greater number of people. We are happy, we are happy that a great militant of ours like Gonzalo Bustamante had assumed this task. We regret the way, we regret that it was through a dismissal of a mayor, but we also believe that this is an opportunity to change the quality of life of the people of Buln. So we are happy, we are going to continue working, not only so that he is mayor of this period, but so that he is at least one more time influencing the quality of life of the people of his commune,” he stated.
