Angola awaits decision from FIBA-Africa to hold Afrobasket 2025 – Jornal OPaís

The holding of Afrobasket 2025 on Angolan soil depends on FIBA-Africa, a decision that will be announced on March 5th, according to a source from the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB).

In the race, Angola beat Morocco, Tunisia and other interested countries, but the presence of members of the body that governs the sport on the African continent will have a technical and administrative nature.

FIBA-Africa, in its portfolio, has a set of requirements that need to be confirmed by inspectors and only then will they give material approval for the organization of the event.

According to the OPAÍS newspaper source, sports and support infrastructure will be the basis of the requirements of the body chaired by Mozambican Aníbal Manave.

Because of this, Moniz Silva’s team at FAB continues to work to convince FIBA technicians, as they know that Angola is a country with vast experience in organizing international sporting events.

Angola, considered a powerhouse in African basketball, has not been on the podium for ten years, that is, it won the last Afrobasket in 2013 in the city of Abidjan, in Côte d’Ivoire.

In the corridors of the FAB, there is talk that Moniz Silva wants to close the cycle with a flourish, winning the title and rescuing Angola’s position in the context of the nations in Africa.

Angola organized Afrobasket for the first time in 1989, ten years later it hosted the competition once more and in 2007 it brought the celebration of the premier sport to the country once more, winning all editions.
