AFTER the success of several musical drama performances such as Nusantara, Annie, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Living in Colors. Sekolah Lentera Indonesia (SLI) is now preparing to hold its newest musical drama performance, namely Mulan: The Mighty Magnolia of China.
This performance will take place at the Grand Theatre, Taman Ismail Marzuki, on March 23 2024. Involving around 350 students from elementary to high school, this musical drama production will be the largest performance production that SLI has ever staged.
No joke, to prepare this show, SLI collaborated with Eksotika Karmawibhangga Indonesia (EKI) Dance Company as a dance and acting trainer.
Musical Drama Producer, Athalya Natasha, said that this musical drama performance is set in the fourth to sixth centuries AD. Inspired by a poem entitled Ballad of Mulan which tells the story of a girl’s journey to save her family and find her identity.
According to him, these values regarding family, courage, loyalty and the search for identity were the basis for choosing this story to be adapted into a musical drama performance.
“There is a strong connection between the values in the ‘Ballad of Mulan’ and the values taught in schools,” he said in a press release quoted on Sunday (17/3).
Athena Salim, Co-Producer of Musical Drama, added that the school also wants to provide students with an understanding of these values. One of the best ways is through this musical drama performance.
Through this performance, SLI hopes to develop the character and potential of students. This is a concrete manifestation of the school’s core character values, namely “Excellence, Assertiveness, Grit, Loyalty & Empathetic (which is shortened to EAGLE). “From these character values, we want to produce students who excel in serving, leading, inspiring and sparking positive change.” (Z-6)
