Operations in Rafah will last “several weeks”, according to Israel’s prime minister

An Israeli operation in Rafah, in the south of Gaza, will last “several weeks,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared this Sunday, who assured that he will continue with an offensive that sparked international alarm.

“I repeat: We will operate in Rafah. This will take several weeks, and it will happen,” Netanyahu said at the beginning of a government meeting.

“To our friends in the international community, I say: Is your memory so short? Did you so quickly forget October 7, the most horrific massacre of Jews since the Holocaust?”

His comments come ahead of an interview this Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.

Netanyahu said that “operational plans for action in Rafah, including advancing steps to evacuate civilians from combat zones,” were approved. “This is an essential stage prior to military action.”

Netanyahu went on to say that in the international community, “there are those who are trying to stop the war” by “throwing false accusations once morest the IDF, the Government of Israel and the Prime Minister of Israel.”

“They are doing it through an effort to provoke elections now, in the middle of the war. They do it because they know that an election now will stop the war and paralyze the country for at least six months,” he said.

Remember: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government on Thursday and called for new elections in a speech on the Senate floor regarding the war between Israel and Hamas.

Separately, the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said he is “gravely concerned” regarding an offensive in Rafah, where 1.4 million displaced Palestinians are taking refuge.
