BANK Indonesia (BI) said that they have prepared money fit for circulation amounting to IDR 197.6 trillion to meet the need to exchange rupiah currency during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2024. The amount of money fit for circulation has increased by 4.65% compared to the realization in 2023 which was recorded at IDR 188.8 trillion. trillion.

“The increase in the amount of money fit for circulation this year is based on considerations of community mobility and economic growth which is predicted to increase,” said BI Deputy Governor Doni P. Joewono in the Vibrant Ramadan Rupiah and Eid Al-Fitr (Serambi) 2024 Blessings activity with the theme Wise Use of Rupiah in the Month Full of Blessings, Friday (15/3). Community movement during Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah is predicted to reach 193.6 million people, referring to data from the Ministry of Transportation and BPS

Optimism for money circulation is reflected in the strengthening of programs, including increasing the number of exchange packages to a maximum of IDR 4 million, modernizing the mobile cash fleet, adding features to digitalize exchanges via QR codes on the Pintar application to make it easier for people to make exchanges. Doni conveyed that in the future the big theme of rupiah currency management is the expansion, development and improvement of cooperation between BI, banks, PJPUR (Rupiah Currency Processing Service Provider), and other third parties to ensure the availability of rupiah currency throughout the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

In line with increasingly modern PUR technology, BI is currently building a Money Processing Center (SPU) and Main Cash Depot (DKU) with the latest automation technology. The hope is that in 2026, SPU and DKU will increase the efficiency of business processes and accountability in managing rupiah currency. It is hoped that the synergy between BI, banking, Perum Peruri (General Company for Money Printing of the Republic of Indonesia), and Apjatin (Association of Indonesian Cash Processing Services Companies) can continue to be closely intertwined in order to provide excellent cash services to the entire community.

Starting from March 15-April 7 2024, the public can exchange rupiah currency at 4,264 commercial bank office service points spread throughout Indonesia. BI also provides rupiah currency exchange service options through mobile cash services in strategic locations such as traditional and modern markets and mobile cash along rivers in several areas.

Specifically for the DKI Jakarta area, BI together with banks will provide integrated exchange services on 28-31 March 2024 at Istora Senayan. In the regions, similar things will be held, among others, in stadiums and city squares.

Starting April 2-5 2024, Bank Indonesia will add exchange service locations on the homecoming route through the BI Cares for Homecoming Program, namely at toll road rest areas and transportation hubs such as ports and train stations. For rupiah currency exchange services, whether through mobile cash (except mobile cash along the river), integrated exchange services, or BI care for going home, people are expected to order exchange in advance via the Pintar application (Rupiah Currency Exchange and Withdrawal).
