Virginia Tech Hokies News: Football Recruit Visit Date, Baseball Offensive Outburst, Softball Undefeated

In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, a football recruit announced a visit date for later this month, the baseball team bounces back with an offensive outburst in a win, and the softball team remains undefeated in ACC play.

There seems to be a nice connection being formed between Virginia Tech and Green Run High School in Virginia Beach and a Class of 2026 recruit announced a visit date to Blacksburg. Defensive back Shawn Church announced on his X page that he will be visiting the Hokies on March 26.

According to On3the 6-foot-3, 170-pound Church has offers from Duke, Liberty, East Carolina, and Temple, with the Hokies sitting in the middle of the prediction. Recently, Jayden Anderson, a wide receiver, and defensive back Knahlij Harrell both committed to Virginia Tech in the Class of 2025.

The Hokies baseball team dropped the series opener Friday at Louisville but bounced back to win the second game on Saturday, 12-6, over the Cardinals. It was the 11th time this season that Virginia Tech has scored double-digit runs.

Carson DeMartini hit two home runs and drove in four runs for the Hokies, while Henry Cooke had four hits, while DeMartini and Christian Martin each had three hits. Chris Cannizzaro, Gehrig Ebel and David McCann each had two hits. Virginia Tech is 13-4 overall and 4-1 in the ACC with the series final on Sunday.

Another day, another day with the Hokies softball team using the long ball to beat their opponent. Maija LoukoEmma Ritter, and freshman Michelle Chatfield each had home runs in an 8-4 victory over Pittsburgh in the second game of their weekend series.

Virginia Tech, which improved to 20-4-1 overall and 8-0 in the ACC, got 10 strikeouts from Lyndsey Grein and scattered four Panthers hits as the two teams will close out the series on Sunday.
