Lenovo presents the full version of the X1 Carbon G12 and ThinkPad X1 2-in-1

2024-03-17 03:30:00

The ThinkPad X1 series is Lenovo’s first line of ThinkPads. The most recent, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 and X1 2-in-1 Gen 9were announced in time for CES 2024. The clamshell X1 Carbon G12 was released directly following its release, but only in limited form: Availability was limited in the United States, and only a small number of configuration options was available for purchase. The X1 2-in-1, successor to the ThinkPad X1 Yoga G8(available on Amazon) and convertible laptop, was not available, at least until now.

This situation is changing, as Lenovo has integrated the new ThinkPad X1s into the PSREF, which is the central location for Lenovo product specifications. This means that general product availability is near. Of course, as a specifications database, the PSREF pages also reveal more regarding both laptops than we knew so far.

For example, we criticized the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G12 in our review for its 1080p webcam. There will be a higher resolution option for the webcam, since the technical sheet mentions a UHD/8 MPix webcam. The camera update, however, is limited to the 2.8K OLED touchscreen or PrivacyGuard WUXGA display options. There’s also a new WiFi 7 option in the form of the Intel BE200, but individual buyers won’t be able to take advantage of the new WiFi solution, as it will be limited to the special offer option – larger enterprise customers . Finally, the specs reaffirm that the X1 2-in-1 will be limited to U-series processors, unlike the clamshell model.

Again, it shouldn’t be long before general availability of these two products, including all the configuration options like the new Sensel haptic touchpad.
