The Sorel-Tracy School Service Center announces that all its establishments (primary and secondary schools, vocational training and adult education centers and daycare services) will be open in the morning on April 8 but closed in the followingnoon in due to the expected solar eclipse.
On the territory of the Sorel-Tracy School Service Center, the partial eclipse will begin at 2:14 p.m. on April 8, it will be total around 3:28 p.m., become partial then end at 4:38 p.m.
Taking place at the end of classes and the transition home, the School Service Center explains that it would be impossible for it to ensure adequate supervision of safety measures inside the buses, nor among the students. who return home on their own. If the schools remained open all day, in order to respect safety instructions, it would have been obliged to cancel transport and not let any student leave the establishment between 2:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., unless a parent do not pick it up directly from the establishment.
Morning school transportation will take place as usual. School transportation will be offered at lunchtime for the return home. Parents should be ready to welcome their child home at this time.
Since observing a solar eclipse involves certain risks for the eye, it is important to be vigilant and follow basic safety instructions. The Ministry of Health and Social Services reminds that the solar eclipse should not be observed with the naked eye for its entire duration. When adequate protective measures are not put in place, observing a solar eclipse, even for a few seconds, can have adverse health effects, including potentially irreversible vision loss.
On the morning of April 8, protective glasses approved to the international standard ISO 12312-2 will be distributed to all students at the Sorel-Tracy School Service Center, so that they can take them home. Suggestions for educational activities surrounding the eclipse will also be distributed.
